Kappa Kappa Gamma Welcomes the Class of 2013!
To no surprise, Spring 2009 was another great semester for Eta Gamma as we continued to thrive on USD’s campus. Thinking back, I am in awe of all that we have been up to!
Our semester started off with formal recruitment, allowing us to welcome 47 wonderful new members (our biggest pledge class yet!) into our Kappa family. We had our new member retreat the very first weekend of the semester, allowing our new members to talk, laugh, and bond all night. Soon it was time for initiation, and we had a fabulously successful Inspiration Week, getting new big and little “key” sisters and learning the values and traditions of Kappa.
We danced our hearts out at our annual Presents dance, Beta Theta Pi’s bid night, a “barbarians and librarians” themed four-pack, a blind date dash, and of course our formal, the Sapphire Ball. We all bonded at two amazing sisterhood events this semester: Rock climbing as well as a dinner and comedy show.
We were so excited to take third place overall in Greek Week, raising money and collecting canned goods for the San Diego Rescue Mission. We also participated in four different athletic competitions—playing soccer, volleyball, powder puff football and dodge ball—all benefiting various philanthropies. We enjoyed spending time with our lovely mothers during Mom’s Weekend cooking, having tea, and even watching a fashion show.
In March, Eta Gamma had the honor of hosting the Kappa South Province meeting, in which Kappas young and old came together from southern California, Arizona, and even Hawaii to vote on new policies and participate in various workshops. It was an extremely rewarding and invaluable experience for our chapter.
At the end of the semester, we got the chance to meet our “journal buddies”, middle school students from Linda Vista, with whom we had been corresponding all semester. We talked to them about college life and gave them a tour of our beautiful campus. We also created an Easter Egg Hunt for the pre-school children at the Manchester Child Development Center on campus.
All in all, we had quite a busy and successful semester. I am so incredibly proud of our entire chapter for all of their hard work and dedication to Kappa, and am looking forward to another great semester with Eta Gamma!
